Apple has just released its new Apple AirPods Pro. These wireless earbuds are the company’s first actual upgrade since the original AirPods were introduced in 2016. They feature improved audio quality, longer battery life, and faster charging.

Even though these are not official, many things are riding on them, especially since the wireless headphone market is full of excellent buds with solid audio and active sound canceling.

We expect Apple to release new Apple AirPods Pro 2 models soon after releasing the iPhone 14. Apple may call them something else, but we think they will be like the existing AirPods Pro, with a few improvements.

Suppose there is any expectation that Samsung will announce its new noise-canceling true wireless earbuds (the Galaxy Buds Pro 2) ahead of Apple’s announcement of the AirPods Pro. In that case, there will likely be pressure on Samsung not to launch first.

This post will cover everything we know about the new AirPods Pro 2, including pricing, release date, features, design, and more.

We also cover how these headphones compare to the previous models and our thoughts on whether they deserve to replace the standard AirPods.

Apple AirPods Pro 2 latest news (updated July 4)

Mark Gurman claims the Apple AirPods Pro 2 will not come with temperature and heart rate sensors, which could be disappointing. He also hints that the wireless charging case might be getting smaller.

A leaked image of the AirPods says that it will look very much like the current model, with a distinct color scheme. The design includes the same white ear tips and black body, along with the same size and shape. However, some subtle changes include a redesigned button layout and a slightly larger Lightning port.

The new AirPods Pro 2 will feature adaptive active noise cancelation technology, allowing you to turn down ambient sounds. You will also be able to use Siri to control the volume of your music, even when the headphones are not in your ears. However, there is no word on whether this will be limited to iOS.

Apple is expected to start massively producing the AirPods Pro sometime in the second half of 2022. However, the company is sticking with its proprietary charging connector.

On June 30, 2021, Ming-Chi Kuo announced the AirPods Pro 2 would be released in 2022.

Despite rumors suggesting otherwise, Apple claims that the AirPods 2 will still come with a Lightning port. It has allegedly begun mass production for the AirPods Pro 2, which it expects to release sometime in the second half of 2020.

A new report claims that Apple’s upcoming AirPods Pro 3 could look almost identical to their predecessors. A modern design without stems will replace the current AirPods Pro, according to The Verge, while the current AirPods Pro will keep its existing design.

The AirPods 3 are expected to launch sometime later this year, with an AirPods Pro 4 launching in early 2020.

Apple AirPods Pro 2 Rumored Release Date

Apple AirPods Pro 2

The latest rumors suggest the AirPods Pro sequel will drop on September 13, 2022. The announcement follows recent reports that suggested the device will feature improved battery life and support for faster charging via USB-C.

According to recent rumors, the AirPods Pro2 will be released on September 13, 2022. It will come with an improved design and new features.

With its new “Pro” version of the popular AirPods headphones, Apple may be able to steal the show by introducing an innovative pair of noise-canceling headphones.

According to an Apple analyst, the AirPods Pro could be released sometime during the second half of 2019.

Price estimate for Apple AirPods Pro 2

The AirPods Pro 2 could be coming soon. A recent report suggests that the next generation of wireless headphones could appear sometime in 2020. In addition to the usual improvements in every new device version, such as better battery life and sound quality, the AirPods Pro 2 might include some features that set it apart from previous models.

The AirPods Pro was one of the most expensive headphones available at their launch price. They have continued to sell well, so we do not expect them to be priced lower soon.

According to Apple Insider, an anonymous source, the new AirPods Pro will be priced at $249 for the base version and $299 for the wireless charging case.

According to a report published by MacRumors, the rumored changes include a redesigned charging case that looks like the one used by the iPhone XR and a new design for the AirPods themselves. Both pieces of hardware feature a matte finish that matches the color scheme of the upcoming iPhones.

Regarding pricing, the AirPods 2 is expected to carry a slightly higher sticker price than the current model. While Apple gave no specific numbers, the report suggested that the AirPods 2 will cost around $250-$300.

If accurate, that would mean that the new model would still be cheaper than the Master & Dynamic MW07 ($349), Bowers & Wilkins P5 Wireless Headphones ($399), Sony WH1000XM3 ($399), and Jabra Elite Active 65t ($449).

But despite the high price tag, the AirPods Pros are still among the best options. They are comfortable, easy to use, and offer outstanding audio performance. And while they do come with a hefty price tag, you will want to hold onto them anyway because they tend to go on sale quite often.

For example, Best Buy consistently offers discounts on the AirPods Pro ranging anywhere from 20% to 50%.

If anything, market competition might force Apple to increase its price by $25 or $100 if significant improvements are made. But rumors that Apple will keep the current AirPods Pro at $249 seem likely. Especially if the first generation AirPods Pro ends with a price drop to compensate.

It looks like Apple could be planning to keep the AirPods Pro at the same price as its predecessor, even though it might be releasing a new model.

Rumors have surfaced (opens in new tab), suggesting that Apple may release an entry-level variant of its AirPods Pro called the AirPods Pro lite, which would cost $199 and omit certain premium features.

Apple AirPods Pro 2 design

According to a report published by Bloomberg, Apple might be planning to ditch the traditional earbud design it introduced with the original AirPods and replace it with a smaller version called the AirPods Pro. In addition to having a smaller form factor, the device would feature a different speaker design.

And to be fair to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, he had initially reported that the difficulty of fitting noise cancelation, wireless antennae, and microphones into a smaller space could result in a less ambitious final design.

According to the Japanese blog Mac Otakara, Apple plans to release an updated version of its wireless earbuds next year. According to the report, the new AirPods Pro will have a minor charging case. It will measure 46mm tall, 54 mm wide, and 21 mm thick.

AirPods are powered by Apple’s H1 headphone chip, which delivers a faster and more stable wireless connection – up to two times faster when switching between active devices and 1.5x faster for phone calls.

Bloomberg says that the AirPods case would remain unchanged, although it could shrink to accommodate the smaller size of the AirPods Pro case.

A separate report from MacRumors contradicts Bloomberg’s claim about the AirPods Pro’s design. According to the site, the new AirPods will continue to include the same design as the current model.

According to reports, Apple’s new AirPods Pro 2 may look almost identical to its predecessor. But there are some differences, including a hole for attaching a neck strap and speaker holes on the base.

According to an unverified tweet by Mr. White, the AirPods Pro2 might come in two varied sizes. We will have to wait for Apple to confirm this.

Apple AirPods Pro 2 specs and features

AirPods Pro Innovation

The AirPods 2 is rumored to focus more on fitness usage, including upgraded sensors and exercise tracking. Precisely what features remain a mystery; however, they could be like how the Soul Blade earbuds can measure heart rate or how the Amazon Echo Buds 2 can track steps, distances, duration, calories, and pace in workout mode.

An Apple executive Kevin Lynch has hinted at added fitness-tracking features for AirPods, saying, “there are all kinds of potential. “While Lynch didn’t name the AirPods Pro 2 specifically, he did note that there was “all kinds of potential” in the AirPods, taking advantage of the sensors used. For more accurate tracking, Apple can combine two sets of sensors from an iPhone and an Apple Watch.

Apple’s rumored AirPods Pro 2 headphones might include some of the same features as its predecessor, including an improved design and wireless charging capabilities giving hours of listening time.

Apple also claims 50% more talk time and faster device connection times.

These new features include warnings of impending dangers and voice recognition technology that stops playback when necessary. Bone conduction technology, compatibility with third-party apps, and the ability to use them with the AirPod case.

A New Apple Patent Application

A new Apple patent application describes how future AirPods might be able to recognize who they are paired with using the shape of their ears. At WWDC 2020, Apple unveiled a range of updates for its current AirPods models, including improved Find My support and an “AirPods Conversation Boost” feature designed to improve audio quality for people with mild hearing loss.

With the release of iOS 15 in September, Apple added some new features to the AirPods Pro, including the ability to listen to music without touching it, an improved voice assistant, and enhanced sound quality.

You can also expect many new features to iOS 14, including automatic switching between headphones and speakers, Dolby Atmos support, and spatial audio that creates a theater-like experience for listeners. iOS 14 will include Dolby Atmos support. Headphone accommodation for frequency adjustments and sound amplification will also be available. Hearing Health will be available in the coming weeks to update users on whether they listen to loud music.

PrimeMusic will be acquired by Apple Music, which means that Apple Music subscribers will access PM’s content, playlists, and improved browsing and searching capabilities by composer and repertoire within Apple Music.

In 2014, Apple introduced wireless earbuds, which they claim will be the most significant innovation.

Apple has something up its sleeve regarding lossless audio streaming for its upcoming wireless earphones.

For comfort and the best audio experience, AirPods are designed to be lightweight and positioned at just the right angle in the ear.

AirPods Pro Will Have State-Of-The-Art Noise Canceling Technology

Elegant Design

On top of that (even though we are not sure if there is any truth to this), leaks claim that the AirPods Pro will have state-of-the-art noise-canceling technology. We would be interested to learn more about this, but the leak provided no further details.

According to recent reports, Apple may introduce an improved version of its popular wireless headphones called the AirPods Pro next month. The company might include a self-adapting active noise canceling feature, allowing the device to adjust to environments automatically. In this case, the headphones could filter out ambient noises, such as traffic and music playing from nearby speakers. However, there is no confirmation yet.

With the AirPods Pro, you may be able to hear better by using the Ear Tip Fit Test feature to adjust the size of the ear tips.

While the AirPods PRO 2 would not boast anywhere close to the driver side of the AirPods MAX 40MM, Apple could be working magic to give these next-generation AirPods their customized acoustic design and enriching audio. It is possible, too, that Apple may perform minor tweaks to the adaptive equalizer.

Apple may be planning to use the H1 chip in the AirPods Pro, which will improve audio quality, battery management, and wireless capabilities, including “Hey Siri” functionality and Audio Sharing, so users can listen to music on two pairs of AirPods or Beats headphones at the same time.

Biometric Sensors May Be Used on AirPods Pro 2

As for what is new or has received little interest? Let us see. One Digi Times report indicates that biometric sensors may be used on the AirPods Pro 2. Combined with other components, this would allow for health-related features: a step-counter, motion detection, and heartbeat monitoring are just a few examples that come to mind. We would also love to see the earbuds pin temperature monitoring from the Honor Earbud 3 Pro.

According to a tweet from LeaksApplepro, Apple plans to include ambient light sensors in its next version of the AirPods Pro. These sensors were previously found in wireless earbuds by Samsung, but they have fallen out of favor due to their high-power consumption.

Additionally, the headphones have new features like heart rate detection, a hearing aid, and a USB-C port for better compatibility.

However, a new Bloomberg report claims that the AirPods Pro may be missing its temperature sensor.

“In recent months, there has been talking about the next iPhone model gaining features that would allow it to measure a user’s heart rate or body temperature. However, Apple hasn’t confirmed either feature for the upcoming release, but they’ve been discussed internally at the company and might be available on future models.”

Another patent from Apple that Patently Apple recently discovered (opens in a new tab) shows them working on a new navigation interface for their AirPods Pro headphones and ones. Using an on-device capacitive touch sensor, they can use gestures to control certain features.

There is no indication that this feature will come to the AirPods Pro, but it would be an interesting trick. It would also prevent people from using Siri on your AirPod to access information from your iPhone.

AirPods Pro 2 Battery and Charging Case

Because there is no official information about the battery life for the AirPods Pro2, we can only rely upon the rumors and what the previous model allowed users, which were limited.

The battery life of Apple’s AirPods Pro (four hours) is shorter than the original version (six hours), but not significantly so. In addition to the usual reasons, we expect improved battery life. The new model also includes a faster processor, better speakers, and improved noise cancelation. But these improvements come at a cost: the price of the AirPods Pros is higher than before. For example, they start at $249 instead of $159. That said, if you already own the previous generation of AirPods, you will not notice much difference between them.

Apple has added some new features to help manage power consumption in iOS 14. These include notifications and optimized battery charging, which learns your charging routine and only charges 100% when necessary to minimize battery aging.

There is not much information about the AirPods pro two charging case, but some rumors are floating around. One rumor claims that the case can emit sounds the user can hear. It will not be handy if you lose the entire case.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the case emits a sound to help users locate it, which would be useful if you misplaced the case, but less helpful if just the buds are lost.

Elsewhere, Patent Pending (opens in a new window) has spotted a patent application showing a bistable hinge for a future version of noise-canceling earbuds. Using a component that locks into place to close the lid firmly might allow for a more secure and reliable closure mechanism. If accurate, it is virtually a given that this version will not ship with the first gen AirPods Pro. However, Apple could save it until a future model that does not call itself AirPods Pro 2, so we will have to wait and see.

Apple has announced a new smart case for the AirPods Max wireless earbuds that automatically puts them into a power-saving mode when they are not in use. It is unclear whether there will also be a similar case for the AirPod Pro 2 wireless earphones.

Apple may add MagSafe charging to the AirPods Pro 3, but there is currently no mention of this feature on its official product page.

According to Kuo, Apple will ditch the Lightning connector for future AirPods models and adopt a USB-C charging plug instead. However, he also believes that the next generation of AirPods will continue to use the Lightning connector.

Our expectations for the Apple AirPods Pro 2

We are still a long way from the AirPods Pro 2 hitting the market, but in the meantime, it cannot hurt to make a wish list of advancements.

A few concepts on the internet have inspired us to produce some suggestions, even if we do not think they are feasible, because Apple never really listens to the public. Hey, you never know. Look at what we are hoping to see in the AirPods Pro 2.

Apple says the AirPods Pro’s noise cancelation adjusts 220 times per second. That is quite a bit of activity and a juice boost. The AirPods Pro 2 would only benefit from a customizable ANC that allows users to manually adjust the ANC levels and conserve battery life when set below the maximum level.

Customizable and high-resolution sound: some of the best wireless earbuds have a companion app that lets you create your sound profile by manually adjusting frequency levels via EQ. That is one of the most significant selling points for competing models like the Jabra Elite Active 75t and Sony WF -1000XM4. It does not hurt to have aptX HD or even LDAC support to enjoy Hi-Res audio-encoded files, primarily since inexpensive and lesser-known models like the Edifier NeoBuds Pro support the latter.

The Digital Crown: The Apple Watch’s popular control feature has found its way onto the AirPods Max, providing precise volume control, playback control, and Siri activation. Seeing something similar on the AirPods Pro near the bottom of each stem would be sick.

Additional accessories: the AirPods Pro showed us that earbuds make all the difference for an optimal fit. Apple continues to promote the first-generation Pro as a sporty model. More accessories like wing tips and ear hooks would convince Apple fans that the AirPods 2 were designed for fitness.

We can now name at least ten wireless ANC earbuds that offer longer ANC playback time than the AirPods Pro. Two of the AirPods Pro’s biggest competitors are the Sony WF -1000XM4 (8 hours) and the Master & Dynamic MW08 (10 hours). If the battery life of the AirPods 3 can be increased to 6 hours, there is no reason Apple cannot do the same for the AirPods Pro 2.

Platform-independent performance: The Beats Studio Buds have shown that Apple can create a pair of wireless earbuds that work well with iOS/macOS and Android devices. Considering the vast Android user base, it would be a given that the AirPods Pro 2 would offer the same excellent performance on all platforms.

Retina display HD: This comes courtesy of the concept website Tech Blood (opens in a new tab), which has created a render of the AirPods Pro 2 with a Retina HD display right on the front of the charging case. You can use the case to control playback, as a compass, and lock the AirPods with your iPhone. The display also shows battery level, incoming calls, and time. We will take it!

Reverse wireless charging support: The iPhone 12 supports reverse wireless charging to power Apple’s MagSafe battery packs. Now that the AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro (version 2021) ship with MagSafe charging cases, it is time for Apple to follow suit with Samsung and allow users to charge their wireless earbuds on their new iPhone.

The AirPods Pro is IPX4 certified for sweat and water resistance. Meanwhile, competitors like the OnePlus Buds Pro (IP55) and Bowers & Wilkins PI5 (IP54) offer better protection against other environmental hazards. Even the OnePlus Buds Z are rumored to be IP55 waterproof and dustproof. The AirPods Pro 2 is likely to follow suit.
